People are truly the agents of the ecological deep waters we find ourselves in. So who's at fault, the unenlightened population or the insistent pursuit of profits at all costs by the huge businesses? Reality is, much consumption and misuse of natural resources is something people are mostly guilty of. People are, naturally, reliant for their information on the huge corporations, and what they say more often than not goes undisputed. It is nonetheless possible for people by their actions to reverse a number of the global ecological instability resulting from global warming.
By carrying out many of the green movement's ideas, much progress can be made. There is no plausible cure for our ecological problems other than going green. We cannot completely undo what's already been done, but we can stop the crisis from developing further and maybe reverse some of the damage. People can at least forestall further damage to the environment by following and sticking to environmentally friendly principles. If we wish for the planet to be cleaner and greener, there are a couple of things that are non-negotiable.
Not using expendable materials, purchasing local produce to shorten the supply chain, adopting a meat-free diet and discovering ways to re-use green waste are but several of these things. Many of us don't have any excuse, since it all depends on the individual choosing the option of doing those things. Smarter and less wasteful use of electricity and water are necessary if the ecological balance is to be recovered. The contamination of our atmosphere by the accelerated amounts of carbon gases created by mankind is the major cause of global warming. The situation is aggravated by the current proliferation of mechanized means of production, in factories and on farms, all dependent on fuel or electrical energy and adding to the carbon emissions problem.
Masses taking to the streets over high food costs and shortages in supply, atmospheric condition extremes not experienced for many decades, water being spoken of as the next oil and many recent natural disasters are all because of global warming. All the signals point to a declining situation, necessitating aggressive intervention to stay the decay. Getting individuals to adopt green living practices is one of the more powerful options available to us. The focus has to shift to convincing men and women that their individual contributions, even if in little ways, will make a huge difference and are critical components of success on a bigger scale. It is important for the media to be involved in convincing the public of how important it is to go green.
If people fail to respond fittingly, it may well be that we find that we have run out of choices. Without substantially raising our environmental awareness, the decline towards eventual ruin seems inescapable. For how long can the earth go on this way, unless people face facts and do their bit towards saving the environment? Unless there is an extreme divergence from the present ways of mankind, there is no hope for the future generation.
